Why No Dig/No Till?

At Hawkins Farm and Harvest the goal was simple.

Nurture the soil, work with nature AND grow healthy, nutrient-dense produce for our family and local community.

No Dig and No Till gardening practices, at their core, provide a way of building upon the soil health and microorganisms that are already hard at work under our vegetable plots. With the creation of each new bed we avoid any disturbance to the existing weeds and soil and opt for layering recycled cardboard + compost for planting directly into. Each fall we follow up simply with an additional layer of compost and organic/all natural amendments for replenishing our soil. This allows for better weed control, healthier soil/microbial life and ultimately more nutrient dense food.

But don’t take our word for it! Come see for yourself. :)
